My suggestion is to change his feeding schedule. Like another member said, maybe take away his food after a certain point and see if that helps. I find that Ozzy is like clockwork for his bowel movements, but his feeding is set to a fairly certain schedule. I think that for poops they have a much harder time holding it. That's more a problem of you figuring out his "body clock" schedule and then changing feeding/exercise times to re-work that schedule.
One thing that helped us at the beginning was taking Ozzy to the park around 7:30 or 8:00 at night and getting him to run and play. It literally worked the poop right out of him. You could try lots of exercise before bed to see if that will stimulate him enough to go before he goes into his crate.
