The glaucoma and vision loss are very likely playing into his separation anxiety. Try giving him one of your tshirts (one with no tags) that you have worn. The scent will probably comfort him, like your bedding.

Give him a smaller area, maybe one room, to be in while you are gone. Sometimes dogs get anxious if they feel they have to "guard" the whole house. Smaller areas can be comforting in many cases. This may be particularly helpful for a dog with vision loss.

Don't make a big fuss when you leave or return. Be matter of fact, and tell him you will return shortly. Try to tire him out with his favorite activity before you have to leave him. He will be more likely to sleep while you are gone.
