Just thought I'd give everyone a little update : so far haven't heard of it being hereditary , mostly known to be a fungus, more suseptable to silky coated yorkies apose to cotten coated yorkies. Also more prone to yorkies in the winter or just cold tempetures. Advised to keep ears warm & to blow dry hair instead of naturally dry , after giving your furbaby a bath, hope that helps someone out there
