Oh Junebug - I am an ex-California girl and am very aware of the high priced housing there. Most of my family is still there...

Now living in Arkansas, today's value for housing is between 400,000 and 600,000 for an extreamly nice/newly built 4 bdrm family home in an upscale area.

Older homes will range from 90,000 to 180,000 but still very nice and many with acreage.

Land is appx 15,000 per acre and it's cheaper to custom build a home than to buy already established.

I miss many things in California - the ocean, In-N-Out, etc...but NOT the prices of homes.
