Is this a puppy we are discussing or an older dog? Puppies are so close to the ground and always getting into their pee and poo and things in the yard that they need bathing a bit more often. If you have a puppy make sure you use a puppy shampoo that is PH balanced to be less harmful to the skin and coat. If this is an older dog bathing is also in order but how often would depend on the condition of the skin. If the dog has dry skin you need to use products made for dry skin.
A good healthy diet is very important in order to produce healthy skin and coat. Usually cheaper grocery store foods are full of fillers and byproducts that are not good for your dog. There is a lot of info about diet in the health and diet section of YT.
