I just got home and this will be short as I really will not know a lot until tomorrow morning. They admitted her through emergency and the vet was wonderful as was the student who took Summer's history.
There are a number of things this could be. She could have contracted MRSA midstream since she had started to improve a bit. The concern is that in spite of healing, her white count has remained high. Then to have the other side erupt like it has is just awful. I will put a pic below of that. There could be a foreign body...or a tear in her esophagus (that option really has me upset). Anyway....they were going to clean it again tonight and continue the meds she is currently on. They are starting over in terms of blood work and xrays. They were doing blood work tonight and also a chest xray and an abdominal xray. They also are giving her IV fluids and added protein since she did have a low protein. The other concern is her basic overall condition...and they are thinking she could have some kind of auto immune issue. I hope not.
The vet was confident that they will get to the bottom of it and that Summer will then be on the healing tract...I certainly hope so. I felt awful leaving her there. They let me see her before I left and she was laying so still. I said her name and she picked up her little head and started wagging her tail....it killed me to leave her with yet again new strangers.
Her estimate...oh please...mortified .. hahah! I suppose I could have gone here locally where at least the do discount for rescue (the local people do give a small discount), but something told me she really needed to be there. I had taken my Maxwell there years ago as he was a complicated case. I love the surgeon I use here locally, but this is not his area and I just feel better about this case up at A&M. They are marvelous up there.
Thank you SO much all of you for your thoughts and prayers for little Summer. As soon as they call me tomorrow with a game plan, I will update. The thinking is a CT Scan perhaps...but the vet said Internal Med will be doing the planning. The specialist today suggested going in for a deep tissue exploration...That worries me because of the anesthesia, but I do trust them up there.
Off to bed!
Oh...the pic:
