High protein diets don't cause kidney issues, but they can aggravate a pre-existing kidney issue (esp. if the food is also high in phosphorus - and high protein foods are). So even if your pup has perfect blood work, by age 5 or 6 it is stiill somewhat likely that there will be a reduced kidney function issue present (that goes for all dogs) and you wouldn't know it and would be feeding a food that isn't appropriate.To each their own. I think you should talk to your vet. We don't use very high protein foods here.
