My yorkie is going through her first heat cycle and I've never dealt with such a matter. She is 12mos and I've only had her for a little over 4 weeks. I've stuck a sanitary napkin inside toddler panties and cut out a hole for her tail, which has helped the mess but she has thrown up several times today but that seems to have passed now. She came from the vet's office on Tuesday and I have to take her back next week for checkups and med renewals. She was very clingy and indifferent for the last two days, but is fine today apart from the vomiting. Her bowl is empty now (it's after 6:00p) and I won't be refilling it til morning, and she's used to that, I thought that would help her stomach. So I guess my questions are: (I know to keep her on lockdown for the next couple weeks!)
What are some things that I should be looking for in her first heat cycle?
How long will she bleed?
Is feeling queasy a part of it?
How long will I have to wait after the heat cycle before she can be spayed (this is top priority!)?
Also, about how much does a yorkie's hair grow in a month? I asked the groomer to trim her this week and I specifically stated DO NOT SHAVE MY DOG four times. I wrote out what I wanted as back up because I had to drop her off and even gave her a picture before leaving. No room for miscommunication. My baby went from a beautiful silky coat (of a 12 mo old

) to a drowned vermit with less than 1/2" (that's being generous). Luckily they left a little on her face but they shaved her neck so it looks like she's wearing an old western mustache. None of her clothes fit now, so I have to go shopping this weekend for some fluffy clothes to give her some Ummpphh. She's still adorable though!! Sorry so long, but this is my first post and all my current problems started this week
