To be honest...I think that it is true of both dogs and human kids. The minute you decide you don't want to deal with them, then maybe you should give them up...I'm not for a moment saying that humans/dogs are the same...But what I am saying is that there is a stigma to giving a child up for adoption. I would rather see that baby/child go to a home that is prepared to deal with the hard job of parenting, than see someone keep the child just because they think they have to! To many young children are damaged by poor parenting in the early years because someone has been convinced that "keeping" the baby is the right thing to do. As for people who give up their dog at the "drop of a hat"...those are the people who should never have gotten a dog anyways, and the dog will likely be better off in a new home. I wonder what the statistics would indicate in a study people/pet owners who are willing to give up their dogs, and whether these are the same people who seem to walk into and out of other committments so easily...i.e. parenting, marriage...There are certainly those amongst us (not the majority thank goodness!) that believe that their needs should always come first regardless of what other committments they might have taken on...pet ownership, marriage, parenting etc.

Now...there is my rant for the day
