Harley and I are also agility competitors. They require 18 months in some places to compete, and a year old before they can jump. The reason for this is because their growth plates in their bones can be damaged if allowed to jump too early. That being said you definitely should start training immediately on ground work. It's never to early to do some of the basics. If you have any questions at all at any time PM me...

First you want to sign up for puppy classes, good socialization (after shots like said above) is a necessity, make sure that he learns how to play well with other dogs. Then your top priority should be the "come" command as a puppy, a recall is super important cause the dogs are "naked" when it comes time to compete so there is no way to catch them.

Spend lots of time looking for a coach that matches you, and once your pup is old enough to start using equipment I have lots of tips on how to make cheap stuff for a small dog, just made a tunnel, miniature training dog walk, and jumps at home for virtually no cost (ahhh the beauty of small dogs).
