One of the things I would be looking for in a Wheaten Breeder, is that they temperament test their puppies. With that testing you should get a better assessment of the likely future temperament of your puppy.
The other idea I had, is if there are relatively nearby breeders who are either a) retiring a female or b) have a relatively young female/male that didn't turn out as a show dog.
Some friends of mine who were looking for an Airedale Terrier, lucked into just that very situation. They were the lucky recipients of a female that was older (2yrs old), housebroken, basic obedience trained, and had just the gentle temperament they were looking for.
