I went through this same decision when I got Mikki. She was used to being called Mikki and she did respond to the name. My DH and I decided not to rename her. She was already having to make so many adjustments. So, we just changed the spelling of her name at the advice of a YT member!
That way she still had the name but we had our own unique way of spelling it.
