Renaming question My normal posture on naming is to keep options open and get to know my dog until a name pops up. Typically it's within a week.
However, even with our past rescue dogs (and cats) they have been pretty fast adoptions (same day most times) while Ferg's was almost a month in the works. Of course, looking at her on PetFinder almost daily and talking about her with the wife and kids, we kind of got used to her "shelter name" Fergie.
I'm wondering as she is an older dog than we thought (around 4) and has been called Fergie by her shelter foster for at least four to five months, how hard would it be to rename her and have her come to recognize it as "her name"?
I'm also wondering if I can rename her (I don't know...just seems to make her "more" mine if that makes sense) since we used her shelter name for a month during the adoption process.
Was wondering what your thoughts were. Should I just stick with her shelter name? |
