I disagree a little. My two males are great together. They are both very strong males. Things might be a little more perfect if one were submissive. We had occasional squabbles in the beginning when we brought the second dog home, but everyone was fine after the transition.

I think it does come down to individual dogs and personalities. Opposite genders might be best; 2 males would be my second choice.
