The reason they prescribe nothing by mouth (usually for 12 hours) is bc the pancreas works during digestion. When not feeding, the angry pancreas has time to rest and get less cranky. That is why the vet is saying "small meals"; however, if pancreatitis is suspected there are ppl who would say nothing by mouth for 12 hours to let the pancreas rest. My dog always received antibiotic also and antiemetic. Pancreatitis causes a lot of pain and nausea. The antiemetic helps w that feeling of tummy upset and nausea. |
