Ive never had to do it on a small puppy that young, all have been older. Turbie never had a problem til she was around two years old.
There are two methods: internal and external
There are two sacs inside the anus, in the 9 oclock and 3 oclock position. When they are full, you can feel them.
The external method is when you squeeze the sacs upwards with your fingers to express them. You usually use a paper towel, so it doesnt squirt everywhere
Sorry, its kind of hard to explain.
The internal method, using gloves of course, is where you find the sacs inside the anus using one finger (usually index) and one finger on the outside (thumb), and express.
The internal method has been known to get the most secretion out.
The reason why everyone says to let your Vet or groomer do this is because if you arent careful, you can squeeze too hard/much. You can ask your Vet to teach you.
The only time I could see that this would be painful is if it is infected, which in that case a vet should be seen.
