Fergie settling in...for sure! Monday morning and it appears that Fergie is settling in. I keep the dogs in their crates during the day while I'm at work. I called Ginger and Ta-Tudie for bed and they went into their crate. I opened Fergie's crate but she just followed G&T into their crate (see picture).
I'm certainly not comfortable leaving them all together yet. So I got down and picked her up and brought her to her crate. I hear her barking upstairs right now. Hopefully she doesn't do that all day...for her sake.
I still think, for the pack mentality, once they are really acclimated to each other that I will put two crates together to give them a real big space with room for all three of them. But that's in the future.
She's not really socializing with us yet unless we "force it" so we're giving her her space and time to adjust. I bought a little cushioned basket from WalMart and have it by my desk at home. She will lay in that behind my chair while I'm working and I can reach down and tussle her ear and talk to her. Sometimes she'll go between the couch and the ottoman where the kids are watching TV and lie down over there. She has also found a nook between the other couch and the trunk where she likes to sleep.
Hopefully as we continue to talk to her and pet her and she realizes we are loving her she'll come out of her shell a bit more. All in all for just a weekend I think they are getting along. A couple of the cats have come over to sniff her on occasion and the dogs have all interacted, going outside together, etc. Ta-Tudie is still very unsure around her, in the crate picture you can see her all the way in the back corner. Not sure what I can do about that except reassure her and let her know we still love her too. Hopefully she comes around. |
