I usually start trimming the edges at 4-5 weeks and shaving the inside and outside of the ears with a moustache trimmer around 5-6 weeks. It doesn't hurt anything and makes it easier for the ears to go up by themselves, plus I never have to worry about taping ears later on when I do this early. :-)
