If I am going to the expense of an MRI, and judging by a) your pups symptoms and b) the vet did suggest one; then I would be going/asking for a referral to a neurologist a specialist that is highly trained in the examination and reading of this type of diagnostic tool.

If this vet is a board certified neurologist (well and good), if not ask for a referral to same.

I'm so sorry that your pup is experiencing these symptoms.
