Fido does this too ....
Today I just watch out really carefully that he does never get loose !
I have a gate on both doors in the house that lead outside, IF someone is going in and out of the house constantly I tie him inside so he doesn't escape.
I have him in a crate in the car but if I have to go outside and he's not in the crate I take him with me in a leash, I always have a leash on him in the car if he isn't in his crate.
It works for me if he gets loose to walk away and say ''Hey do you want food?'' then I run inside and he goes after me really excited (I watch out that he follows me) and I get some good food and he comes most often straight too me with a wagging tail !
