If the dog knows you are anxious and that you will give up, the dog will fight. Be confident, catch him, and then no matter how long it takes, don't let him go until you put the drops in the ears. He will probably learn fairly quickly that he isn't going to be released until it is done, so he may as well not fight it.

If putting him on a countertop is too risky, choose a small area that he won't be able to escape from. For instance, a small bathroom. Grasp his ear flap firmly and don't let go. You won't hurt him. If he snaps, tell him "uh, uh, uh" or "no bite." Be pleasant, but firm. Never act excited or frustrated.

You can always try to incorporate a little massage in the whole process. Rub his chest, scratch behind his ears, whatever he likes. My boys like being told how wonderful they are. All of this has a calming effect.

Once the drops are in, tell him he is a good boy and give him a treat. Follow up with his favorite activity.

Good luck.
