As far as their coats go, an adult yorkie should have a straight, silky coat. They do not generally stay curly once the puppy coat grows out.

Exactly! If a yorkie has a "curly" coat, they may not be purebreds to begin with, or they are soft coated like mine. With a soft coat, you would want to keep it short anyway because it tangles very quickly, and it grows up and out instead of down. I'll admit, I love the feel of the soft coat because it's soft and fluffy, and my pup feels like a very plush new Teddy bear. Taking care of the coat is well, a pain in the read if you want to grow it out.
