Lucy has bad tear stains too - and you can see a little bit of the hair missing around her nose on one side.
The vet told me that some of the tearing can have a little bacteria on it.
He recommended just gently wiping her tears stains with a warm, soft cloth and putting a little triple antibiotic ointment (not cream) on the tear area for a few weeks. Not in her eyes. The ointment helps the moisture to roll off too.
It has been looking a little better.
