The best thing I EVER did was to train my three they are never allowed in or out the front door of my house. The back door is the only door they are ever taken in our out of and only after they sit/stay. I began working on with them when they were puppies. Now I can open my door and they will not bolt. They will sit until I give the command to go. Pebbles is always on the hunt for bunnies, squirrels, bird or whatever might wander into the yard and she will literally quiver but will stay until given the OK. It's the same with my car. When they go for a car ride they are only allowed into the car from the back passenger door and then out through the back driver side door. I can open any other door and they will not come. But when I open the back driver side they will.

I trained by putting a leash and harness on them and I would step on the end before I opened the door. Then I'd do sit stay with a treat. It's worked so well and I don't have to worry about them bolting.

When Pebbles first came home at 5 months she was a bolter. It was very scary to have to chase her countless times in those first few days. So I made it a mission to get her to learn this command. The other two came along later and learned quickly from her.
