Yeah, I agree, the public at large would have been more forgiving in that she did a horrible, unthinkable thing but "paid" for it legally at least and would have been as accepted as a child-abuser/killer can be. Many would never accept her but many more would have had she had to do 5 - 10 years or something like that. She would have always had it tough but this way, she is going to have it very tough in the world at large unless she can go somewhere she is not really known, change her appearance and live quietly to keep someone from recognizing her.
