Harnesses are more important on small dogs like Yorkies who are susceptible to collapsed trachea. Other breeds do well with a harness have short-muzzles and are prone to breathing problems.

Quote:
Dog harnesses are commonly worn in conjunction with a dog collar and can be a base for leash attachment. The use of a harness can make the pulling of a leash less uncomfortable for the dog as the harness spreads across the body, minimizing strain. Harnesses may even encourage your dog to stop pulling on the leash altogether. Pet owners with older dogs with developed bad habits commonly use harnesses as a form of corrective training. Harnesses are an ideal walking and training equipment for dogs of all sizes. However, they are highly recommended for small breed dogs with shorter muzzles. This is because short-muzzled breeds, including: Boston Terriers, Pugs, Bulldogs, and Chihuahuas, have breathing problems due to the structure of the respiratory tract and nasal passages. Harnesses eliminate pressure on the throat area and prevent problems, such as a collapsed trachea.

I like Harnesses for all dogs, but certain breeds don't have to have them.

I'm confused how you dog takes his harness off? There's no way Joey can get his harness off.
