Steroids should work well. It sounds like the vet thinks they are environmental allergies. Steroids can really work well to get him over the worst of it, but you may want to consider giving Atopica and then cutting back on the pred shortly. It is safer for long-term use. You don't want a dog on steroids for 8 months a year if avoidable because in a few years it can cathc up to them. If you have to, you have to, but Atopica might work. Skin allergy testing with allergy shots is also an option.
