No one has passed judgement on the fitness of the OP to own a dog. She posted that she couldn't/wouldn't spend $500 to pay for a pup. Ladyjane posted back the very reasonable reply that the initial cost of the dog is the smallest part of the investment. She sees on a daily basis people turning over dogs because they can't/won't pay for medical care. We aren't talking the $10k that you threw out, but far lower numbers for things like LP, Liver shunt and the like. Stick around here long enough and you will see countless people come on and give up dogs because they can't pay for even routine care. It's not elitist to say that, it's reality. I, for one, hope she keeps chanting that message over and over.
