I would fight this.
First of all the ownership of the dog is decided in civil court, not criminal, so the police have no say in it.
Second, the dog is OWNED by the person that bought her, therefor Kay. A simple way to fix this is to have the paperwork transferred into your name.
Third IF she DID go to take you to court, it would at best be small claims court, and you defend yourself.
She is not going to win with either Kay saying that you are caring for the dog for her, because of the back and forth of the breeder, OR with the paperwork of the dog being transferred into your name.
She GOT her value of the dog when she sold the dog and NO LONGER has any legal rights to the dog.
Moreover, while this is a civil matter, I will deny her the dog, and tell her that if she contacts you again, you'll file charges of harassment on her and her friends that she sends against you.
Because while the dog issue might be a civil matter, HARASSMENT is a CRIMINAL matter.

Last of all, you can always deny this is the dog she bred and say you got a different one.
Good luck to you, no matter what you decide.
