I guess the main thing is to know what is actually good for a dog. Many of the cheaper foods have too much grain in them. Dogs are not cows and should not be eating corn or a majorly grain diet. Some of the dog foods also have a for of sugar in them to make the dog like the food. It could be listed a sucrose or dextrose, corn syrup, etc. I think that is one of the reasons so many dogs get fat after a few years of eating those foods. Diabetes is also rampant in domestic dogs. Cancer is another big problem. Just learn to read the ingredient list. If a grain is the first ingredient put it down and walk away.
