I am so sorry about Max. i am not a cat fan because lots of people dont care where they go when they let them out of the house so they end up getting into everybody's yard and into trouble. I would let your animal control know and I would speak to the neighbors about there cat and they need to pay your vet bills in my opinion. I would definitely make sure the vet checks him over again if there is a lump also you probably need to make sure you go outside with him to make sure that the cat doesn't come back.
