The definition of the word "less" is simple.

The dictionary defines it as :

"TO A SMALLER EXTENT OR AMOUNT OR NOT AS MUCH"

So you can see my confusion, if something is of a smaller amount then how can it be more than the amount.

Perhaps there is a language problem here but I really would appreciate an example as it would extend my education and I am not too old to learn.
