Definitely work with your dog, as others have suggested, on "come", "wait" and "sit" and "stay". You can tell your dog to "sit" and "stay" when she runs.
During our training class, our instructor told us to use a phrase for "come" other than come. This is because come is overused. Such as come here, come on. Her word was "front". It's up to you what you want to use.
Also as someone said, make it a fun thing when she does come. Praise her lots or treat her. I don't carry treats on our walks, but I sure give praise and stroke them down when they come over to me when called.
And yes, a lot of times, when you go away from them, they will tend to follow you. Not 100% of the time but most of the time. Try teach them this as well. |
