When I took SophieKate to her puppy classes one of the first things they taught us was the command "come" and "wait".
"Come" is exactly that, you say their name and come and they will come right to you (it works). As mentioned before they told us to only say come once and expect the dog to follow the command.
The "Wait" command was a little more difficult to teach because the way my trainer taught it was wait can mean many things but it should always mean that you go first and the dog waits until you say "come". Example when the door is open you go out first and your dog waits until you say "come".
One suggestion I would make is always make sure your dog is wearing a collar with tags. As you probably have read you shouldn't walk your dog with the leash attached to the collar (use a harness) but I always keep the collar on along with the harness. This is a just a preventative if your baby ever slips out the door.
Get a lot of training treats and start working with your baby, you will find it rewarding and valuable in the future.
Good luck .
