I would never not place a dog in a home because he bit when someone messed with his food. I do understand that shelters have to evaluate and sadly many pups get pts for this reason. If I have a pup like that, he is not going to a home with children and he will go to a home that understands him.

My take on it: Let the pup eat in peace. I don't have anyone getting into my plate of food and would not like it; so I don't mess with a pup while he/she is eating.

Pretty simple in my humble opinion.

Certainly if you can train a pup to not be that way, that is wonderful; but I don't think it is a simple thing. I would think it would take him learning that he can trust.
