It would make a good privacy screen but it does spread easily depending upon the soil. It's not terribly hard to keep ours cut back to the area intended. It's been very hardy here, even with our drought and high temps. I do like the big plumes it puts off after it starts to mature, I've even decorated with them. It's also nice to hear the wind rustling through it in the evenings.
Ahis_Mama had a great idea about getting a start from someone, that is how we got ours. My husband noticed it growing in a yard, stopped and the owner was happy to share.
