I have my puppy room setup so the mom is in a big exercise pen setup with her whelping box, food water and pee pads. When I have a litter I let the momma out about 5 or 6 times a day so she can run around. It does keep you busy for sure.

Make sure you keep a close eye on the puppies toe nails. Once the tails started getting those sharp ends you need to use some baby nail clippers and cut off the points.
These puppies were born 5 days ago. Don't think they are eating less right now. She can go out and potty but remember to wash her feet and clean her little bottom before she gets back in with the babies.

She does definitely need to be either in a puppy pen or an exercise pen with her puppies.
