I've always had great success with Sulfur Powder. You can find it at most hardware and feed stores. Just sprinkle it out on the yard, water LIGHTLY and it should work for most of the summer depending on how much rain you get or watering you do. It's safe for the dogs, you just will have to put up with a bit of a smell for a day or two.
