Animal Smiley 049 Strange Personality?

I don't know why I never noticed this before; My Yorkie Petey has this hate on for " FLY SWATTERS" ! I'm not allowed to even touch it and he comes running, growling and trying to take it away from me (ever so gently I must add)!
We've had Petey 3 yrs. now (he's 7), he's a Dad's Boy! But I get my share of cuddles and kisses and I truly know he loves me (I think?)lol... When ever I give my husband his lunch Petey really takes offense to it! I'm not allowed to touch my husband and funny thing is, it's the same for my husband, he's not allowed to come near me! Petey guards me like crazy, in the bathroom/shower, and especially when I'm in the bedroom sleeping and my husband enters the room!
There are times he'll be sleeping w/1 eye open at my feet under my computer desk like tonight, and out of the blue he'll get up growling, make sure I see him and then runs out into the living room growling like crazy! I must admit Petey is a very vocal little guy and we can have Grunt conversations that go on for a minutes, what we talk about is beyond me, but it's very entertaining!
He's got a super strong sniffer, we'll be watching TV and all the sudden Petey will jump up and run to the front door sniffing feverishly at the tiny crack between the door and door frame, growling between sniffs! when he does that we know there is a strange cat on our porch and Petey won't quit until we let him out to "Take back his yard"! His growl is louder than his bark and it's almost entertaining! He stops when we tell him too, but he will continue like we've never ever addressed it before (the next day!). He has a very short memory!
He does the greatest yard patrol we've ever seen, he's already made a track in the grass all around the fence/yard, and if our other dog a Shi-itzu is barking at a passer by and we tell him to stop, Petey takes on the role of enforcer! Our Shi-itzu is 1 yr. older than Petey and lets Petey take charge, he's a pretty layed back ball of fluff ! Then when you put our 10 yr. old Himalayan cat into the picture, Petey at first used to attack her, oh boy did they scrap! but now he knows he's not allowed to touch her, she is the boss, it's to the point now if she is at the bottom of the stairs she'll purposely block it and won't let him pass until he passes her sniff test, well he seems to always shy away from her when she does this and it ticks her off to no end! she of course has to smack him and tries so hard to provoke him! but he's learned to run around the yard and go up the other set of stairs or use one of us as a shield.
When we got him, he was so embarrassed to poop in view of us while out in the yard or on walks, he has a strange habit of having to do circles, quite a few at that, and the higher up the better! I've found poop on the top of the bottom rung of our fence! that is an impressive 6-10 inches high! He was also very sensitive to the word "Stinky" when it was said he'd skulk with tail between his legs into his bed, so it's not a word we use much, we also congratulate him when he has a poop and now it doesn't matter if we are there watching or near! He's a proud pooper now!
Funny little guy, I wouldn't change a thing about him, he's a loving, caring, talkative bundle of energy and we love him dearly. When you adopt an older dog you always wonder how they got like they are, I sometimes wonder if he came from a Puppy Mill and if all his quirks were inbreed or learned, no thanks to his previous owners.
He makes us laugh and has brought much joy to our mundane lives! I hope Petey isn't the only Yorkie that has strange quirks, please tell me I'm not alone!
