personally i don't think of designer purses as having the emotional value to "make me feel good" about owning one. so i don't really buy into the "if it makes you feel good, then get it!" arguement.
however, i do think designer purses are better constructed, better designed, use better materials, with better guarantees and warranties, which results in a better value. my purses and wallets take a beating. when i used to buy cheaper ($20-$50 range) purses and wallets, the average life expectency of one is about 3 months. which translates to about $100-$200 on purses plus the cost of wallets in one year.
my coach purses and wallets have lasted me YEARS. last i checked, i can have it cleaned at the coach store for free, or even re-stitched for a nominal fee so it'll look as good as new. so to me, the more expensive purses may be a larger investment to start, but will result in a better value in the end.
of course, the value also depends on the style and trendiness of the design. the more trendy the style, although it'll last for years, it'll last beyond the trend and look "dated" a lot sooner, like the "logo design" that's popular of late. |
