Oil is tricky. It attracts dirt and really shouldn't come into contact with the skin. There are certain kinds that show people use, but their dogs are in wraps 24 hours a day and washed often. A good conditioner is all you really need.
Rather than worming every 6 months, which is likely hard on the dog, I would recommend using a monthly worm preventative med (Interceptor covers everything from heartworm to whipworm) and request that your vet test annually as required.
