For 10 years I worked and Sabrina was home alone. She did fine. She had her toys and food out and plenty of water, I'd go home for lunch when I could and if I had to work late luckily I could run home and make sure she had supper and return to work. She didn't ever have a problem with it. They adjust to our lives so easily it's easy to take advantage. I just gave her plenty of lap time when I got home.
