I am SOOO careful about what is laying around in my house, but don't think as much in other people's houses- today my parents had a big yard sale, so I went over to bring some junk I wanted to get rid of since I don't really live in a yard sale friendly area myself. I took the dogs along and put them in a bedroom in my parents house so they wouldn't be let out by accident with the doors opening and closing. I kind of just tossed them each in a separate bedroom and didn't think twice. They were up there about 2-3 hours when I went to get them to go home.
I went in the room Armani was in and sat on the floor to calm him down for a second and I noticed little blue pills- my mother takes morphine for migraines

Of course I FREAKED OUT! for good reason I think- she had no idea how many there had been or even how they got there. I was LIVID. I scooped both the dogs up and ran home.
Once home I called the ER vet who directed me to Poison control (everyone should have the direct line on their fridge- lesson learned I will from now on, although ER vet was nice enough to give me all the info). Poison Control thinks he probably didn't ingest any- they say his weight combined with the dosage probably would have shown severe symptoms now. They say ER vet can't do anything but monitor him in the meantime so they think he would be better off being monitored at home, especially since I live so close to ER vet. He is not to be left for 12 hours, I already canceled my evening plans to sit with him. Again, they have led me to believe everything should be okay- but obviously if you have any spare vibes to send, they are much appreciated.
He is absolutely banned from entering anyone else's house ever again unless he is crated or totally supervised by me the entire time. Trust me- BIG, HUGE lesson learned.
I am basically furious at my mother, how can people be irresponsible with medicine- any medications in my home are stored in child proof containers, on a high shelf. I open them over a counter only and take out only what I will be taking right away- she thinks I am overreacting of course.
I guess this is part rant/ part reminder to watch your pets everywhere they are- if you read the whole thing, I will send cookies.
