For now - I keep the hair along the top of my pup's nose very short (the area from between his eyes to the tip of his noise).... Then on either side of this, it grows longer.
We're not ready for a "real topknot" yet - so the hair above his eyes is also kept short now.
Also if I see any odd hairs that are constantly growing toward his eyes - and not lying down like they should -- these get trimmed also.
The above sounds like a lot of trimming - but it really isn't. He looks great and has a very neat puppy-type cut for now. (He still has a very hairy little face.)
You should see the hair on my Bichon. If the hair around his eyes weren't trimmed - he wouldn't have any eyes at all.
