I am no longer going to put him in situations where a lot of terrible food is "available" to him, for one. If he comes with me to a family get-together, he's going to be leashed up to me the whole time. That's a new rule I've set in place. I have given my whole family who sees him often a set of rules that he is never to be given anything from them. They've all been very good and even my 3 1/2 year old sister is learning to pick her plate/food/etc up and put it away when she's done. She was very worried about Jackson. I think this will all be for the better anyway -- my dads dogs are no longer getting people food. My dad has decided it's simply not worth it. So hopefully his dogs will become healthier as well. |
I've only had problems with one person and that's my father-in-law. My own children KNOW not to feed table scraps, but when I saw my fil feeding Joey powdered donuts I about died. So I don't envy you, some people have feed their dogs crap for 10 years and their dogs did fine, but Yorkies are one of the breeds whose digestive system is a little trickier, and that's probably why so many people have such diverse thoughts about diet.
