Default Tanner - Possible liver shunt :(

I've posted a couple of times about our Brady Bug. This time we ended up at the vet with Tanner. Tanner came to us in rough shape off of Craigslist. He has made a complete turn around this last year and is the sweetest little guy. It breaks my heart that he finally got out of an abusive home to us and now we're going through this.

When we got Tanner he wasn't 100% housebroken and we've had incidents here and there since, but this week he started refusing to go outside, would pee right in front of us or even on the run while playing (like he couldn't control it), and in his kennel. At first we thought it might have been behavioral, but when he peed in his kennel the scales tipped and I decided to take him in.

They had to cath him to get a urine sample and our vet said she is so glad she did because she found a urethral blockage similar to ones that occur in cats rather frequently. As they drained his bladder they found several large crystals and noticed on the ultrasound that his bladder wall was thick.

They've sent a urine sample to the lab to determine if we're dealing with a bladder infection, but indicated they will probably want to do some blood work either way next week to check liver function as well.

Removing the blockage has made a HUGE difference already as he readily runs outside to potty again without any persuasion.

I just hate that he's been through so much already and he's just over a year old....

I'd appreciate any info you all might have as well as your experiences.
