Hi Kate, and welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'll try to answer some of your questions, I'm sure some other members will have input as well

Quote:
1. I heard these dogs have a big problem with their knees, and other bones, popping out of place. True?
Some Yorkies do have problems with their legs and knees. One is called luxating patella which is like a trick knee.

2. They are hard to housebreak, and even when they are, they will still urinate inside. True?
This is true for some, but not all. Housebreaking is hard, but with a lot of dedication and hard work it pays off in the end. A lot of members here are seasoned pros at this. I have a puppy at the moment and I will say she has been harder to train than any other dog I've ever had. This may be partly my fault though, for spoiling her too much (probably!)

3. If an emergency comes up, and I cannot find someone to care for the dog, and the vet is closed, can I leave the Yorkie in a crate for 24 hours (one night)? Will they urinate/poop in their crate? I would not make a habit of this, but am just thinking of a worse case scenario.
I personally don't think you should ever crate ANY dog that long. My suggestion would be to find a good pet sitter who also handles emergency situations and keep that number by the phone.

4.They yap constantly. Especially when company comes.
This really depends from dog to dog. Each personality is different. Yes, there are some yappy Yorkies, but there are also some who don't make much noise at all. I think the result has a lot to do with the enviroment - is it a loud house, or more quiet?

I hope I was able to help you out a little
