Checking back in. If your neighbor has homeowner's or renter's insurance - they might be able to cover the actual medical costs for the damage her dog caused.
A lot of companies have exclusions for certain breeds; but most pit bulls are a mix and therefore, it is hard to enforce that exclusion.
Just something to think about in the way of getting the vet bills paid.
