His liver could just be a little upset. Could wait the 3 weeks and retest.
He is young though and what she said about liver shunt is not totally true. They don't always show symptoms right away and they can be acquired. Plus, symptoms of MVD (microscopic shunting) aren't always as pronounced.
I'd do a bile acids test on your boy, but that's me. I wouldn't be too surprised if it came back normal though.
