Rookie is on Hill's zd due to a food intolerance. I usually give him zd as a treat or Purina Lite Snackers don't bother him. Yesterday was a bit hectic in my house and I had left the treat containers open on the table and on top of that forgot to push my chair in. That is a big no no in my house!

Anyway....found Rookie on the table with his head in one of the treat containers. He ate an unknown number of two different types of treats. I was not overly concerned about it...but, this morning he vomited before breakfast...then would not even look at his food. Shortly after that he vomited a few times on my sofa. (joy, joy

)
I was on my way to the specialists with two of my fosters but figured I better have him checked by my vet. He just seemed a bit out of it and his gums were a tiny bit sticky. Turned out his lipase was elevated and also his liver enzymes and bilirubin. So....he was admitted for IV fluids and Reglan. He had no further vomiting today so he was discharged. He is to take Metronidazole for five days and is going back on Thursday for a recheck on his labs. The vet thinks the liver was irritated by the treats and is just inflammed... certainly hope that is all it is. She said that he also could have had pancreatitis in the early stages. So glad I followed my instincts and got him in early. I had almost put it off until later after I had returned with the other two.
Long story short: it does not take only people foods to make a pup sick! Too much of a good thing was not good for my Rookie boy.
